Workers are exposed by various physical condittion at the work place, one of them is
hot work microclimate. Human being are considered as a homeoterm creature which means
that they could maintain their core temperature about 360C-370C despite the changes of
environment temperature, but this statement not automatically means that human could do this
mecanism in every condition. Extrim hot environment temperature could affect their core
temperature. This is mostly the problem faced by industry that involved hot process in their
production activity.
In the effort to solve this problem, our government has declare a regulation which
adopted the WBGT (Wet Bulb Globe Temperature Index) recommended by the ACGIH
(American Governmental of Industrial Hygienists) without any scientific study to compare the
contents as it should be done because of different condition between Indonesia and USA.
The ACGIH has continuously improves their recommendation of the standard by
research study, to achieve best practices and to avoid miscalculation between the standard and
the real condition at the workplace. In 2005, ACGIH has launch new recommendation, that if our
government inherently adopt this standard, should also continuously renew the regulation as the
ACGIH has done
This is actually big problem for us to face, because this mistake could end up a fatality
and this paper will give an explanation about this discrepancy of our goverment regulations
theoretically.
